Stethoscope

What Kind of Stethoscope Types Do Doctors Need?

A stethoscope, known as a hearth type stethoscope, is an essential medical device that is used to listen and measure the inner temperature of the human body. It has the ability to measure the blood pressure and heart rate and has a small bell shaped drum with a spring and piston at its base. This medical device is made up of a number of different parts, including:

Bell

The bell of the stethoscope measures the inside temperature by emitting high-frequency sound waves. These sound waves are picked up by the tube that houses the sensors and converts them into electrical signals that are then amplified. These signals are then sent to the stethoscope’s earpiece, which in turn registers these data. The size of the bell is usually one to 2 inches in diameter. Sometimes the tube is also equipped with a meter to measure the heart beats.

Stethoscope Holder/Cup

A stethoscope holder/cup fits over the ear of the instrument and is used in order to hear the heart and lungs while holding the tube in place. This allows a doctor to clearly hear the various sounds as they occur in the lungs, abdomen and bloodstream without risking damage to their hearing. Some instruments are equipped with a valve to prevent any noise from escaping from the cup that can interfere with a doctor’s hearing.

Electronic Stethoscopes

With the advent of modern technology, medical professionals have been able to create stethoscopes that are either electronic or digital. This technology enables them to take advantage of a variety of different features and amplification capabilities that would be impossible to achieve with traditional stethoscopes. Some of the features that you may find included with some electronic stethoscopes are:

The Electronic Stethoscope

An electronic stethoscope has the ability to measure the inside of the throat without having to insert the stethoscope into an artery or vein. It has a microphone that receives the sound waves, a speaker which converts the sound waves to white noise, a speaker that produces the white noise, an LED screen and a battery that powers all the equipment. The device has a stethoscope button which is used to switch it on, a cuff that holds the stethoscope in place, a valve that shuts off the electricity and a cuff valve that allows a steady flow of air to pass through the tubing. These features allow a stethoscope to be used not only by doctors but by other healthcare professionals such as the emergency room doctor and the dental assistant.

The Bell of the Stethoscope

The Bell of the Stethoscope is another important part of the stethoscope. This is used to listen to the heart and lungs, but it has a more important job to do. Its role is to detect abnormalities in blood pressure. By hearing the bell, the doctor can check for abnormalities in the way your blood pressure is flowing through your body. In the past, when these were used, they required a finger to depress the bell, and today, you can easily press the bell using only your index finger.

Earphone Stethoscopes

These are ideal for use at home or in the office because they are portable. They have a variety of different types of sounds to detect. The sounds will allow your doctor to hear any unusual sounds in your chest or abdomen. For example, a medical stethoscope will have a sensor that listens for any abnormal noises in your ear canal. A Cardiology stethoscope would also have this same kind of sensor so that it could determine if there are any abnormalities in the way your heart is pumping blood through your body. An otolaryngologist would use these kinds of stethoscopes to listen to your ear and any abnormalities that might be present.

Lung Stethoscopes

This is the most common type of stethoscope that you will find today. Because its job is to hear any lung sounds that might indicate problems with your breathing, these will need to be placed inside of your lungs. They are made up of a tube that has a sensor attached to it. When you breathe, the sensor sends off an audio signal. If you hear any unusual sounds when you breathe normally, then your doctor will likely want to perform a lung scan in order to make sure that everything is alright within your lungs.
